Resilience: Stories of Muslim Women

Resilience: Stories of Muslim Women captures the lives of eleven girls from the extremely orthodox Nizamuddin Basti in New Delhi, who found their way to knowledge, jobs, and financial independence through an unconventional education. Interspersed with their stories are interviews with Muslim women lawyers, academics, and novelists, alongside an exploration of the Basti’s history, the Shah Bano case, and Triple Talaq.  Above all, it is a book of inspiration, hope, and courage.

Stories don't change the past. They change the way we understand it.

Writing, for me, is an act of listening — to memory, to silence, and to the stories that often remain untold. I carried a lot of bottled-up angst, fear, and emotional turmoil inside me for the longest time, before I found the courage to put it into words. What I learned along the way is that trauma doesn’t go away with time. But it can be understood, and even transformed, one honest page at a time.
